Let's try this again

So, it's been a while. Our last post was on December 3, and since then, we've traveled to South Dakota and Indiana and back to Alaska, Molly has taken over our apartment, and our friends Kelvin and Nate came out here to help me celebrate my 30th birthday. But it wasn't until today that I had the inspiration (and the time) to post another entry. Today was the first time we saw a moose in our yard.

I was just getting out of the shower, and I could hear Lindsay screaming frantically in the other room. I figured that Molly had either eaten herself to death or done Molly business on the carpet, but it turned out that Lindsay had seen a young bull moose out our kitchen window:

Recalling my training from Mutual of Omaha's Wild Kingdom, I was able to capture this dramatic footage (watch as I dive out of harm's way at the end):

The moose must have heard about how well-fed Molly is. He just stood there for a couple minutes, staring at us, waiting for some peanut M & Ms:

Or some leftover nachos (that's what we have to eat in our house - peanut M & Ms and leftover nachos):

He didn't get any, so he decided to head on down the road:

He stopped right before jumping this fence, just to make sure we hadn't rustled up some of those nachos:

A few minutes after the moose took off, we got in Subaru and took off as well. He was just down the block:

He had given up any hope of getting people food from us and gone back to eating sticks, all moose-like and whatnot:

After watching Lindsay and me make such a fuss over another animal, Molly was, to say the least, disgruntled. Here she is later this afternoon, just daring that moose to come back into her strike zone:

We'll post another entry once we get caught up at work . . . probably sometime in 2012.

  2. Hey Josh. Just found your blog on Jons blog and had to read about you and your wife and your life in Alaska. I don't know if you are aware, but my nephew Jared Larson and his wife Evie are also living up there in Anchorage. They are a very unique couple and she is happy to have moved back home. They met at school in PHX some years ago. If you are interested I can get you their address and I am sure you would enjoy their company. Congrats on your wedding and I send our love to you up north. Ron and I are hoping to someday travel up north and see the beauties it offers. Sandy Peters Thomas
