Day 5 - Wednesday, August 12

Lindsay and I are in our new apartment now, and after two visits from the cable guy, it appears that we have somewhat regular internet access. So, where were we?

Day 5 started with a quick lunch at the Taco John's in Sturgis, South Dakota (that's right, I said our day started with lunch - we were on vacation). After lunch, we drove the last few miles to the Wyoming border. Here I am going into the last rest stop on the South Dakota side: We were in Wyoming (state #6 of our trip) for about 30 miles before we entered Montana (state #7):

Our only big stop of the day was at the Little Bighorn Battlefield National Monument. General George Custer was killed there during the Battle of the Little Bighorn in 1876. Lindsay and I were unaware that he was killed by rattlesnakes:

I guess you learn something new everyday.

Below is a quote from a Crow Indian named Rotten Belly: Rotten Belly is the nickname of our friend Matt in Indianapolis, but Lindsay and I are pretty sure that they are two different people.

Here is a headstone for George Custer:

And here is a headstone for George's little brother, Boston, a civilian who George apparently invited to tag along for a battle against guys with names like Sitting Bull and Crazy Horse:

"Thanks a lot, George."
Here I am with the battlefield to my right and the Custer National Cemetery to my left:

From Little Bighorn, we headed to Billings. There were two oil refineries, a power plant, and women's prison all within walking distance of each other. Surrounded by such natural beauty, we were too dazzled to take any pictures.

North of Billings, we had a romantic dinner at the Cozy Corner Bar in Lavina, paid for in part by Lindsay's video poker winnings:
A lovely establishment, the Cozy Corner Bar. When I went to the bathroom, I was nervous that Lindsay was going to run away with the dreamboat sitting at the bar (the owner, I think), but lucky for me he was so drunk that his face had stopped working.
My manhood slightly threatened, I sped Lindsay off to Great Falls and treated her to a night at the Motel 6.

Rapid City to Great Falls - 544 miles
