Day 7 - Friday, August 14

The Canadian border is only twenty miles from the eastern entrance of Glacier National Park at St. Mary, Montana. Lindsay seemed very relaxed as we prepared to leave the United States (her mom is from Canada), but I was skeptical. And rightfully so. We drove past this sign:

And then we drove past this sign:

Canada has appropriated the northernmost 100 feet of Montana. The revolution is underway.

Still, we had to get to Alaska, so we continued north. You probably can't see it in this picture, but Lindsay was smiling with her eyes closed:

She clearly sympathizes with the revolution . . . somebody get the waterboard.

The first part of Canada didn't seem so bad. In fact, it was fairly pleasant:

Parts were downright lovely:

It was apparent that Lindsay was enjoying herself:

Heck, she even managed to get a smile out of me:

But then we got to Lake Louise in Banff National Park:

and saw this hotel - the Chateau Lake Louise:

Only a country with something up its sleeve would have a hotel with such a fancy name. Again, I was skeptical, as evidenced by my stern gaze:

St. Mary, Montana, to Lake Louise, Alberta - 292 miles
