Day 2 - Sunday, August 9

When we woke up at Nick and Betsy's house on the morning of Day 2, there were Dunkin' Donuts in the kitchen. Apparently they wanted us to stay in Indiana forever. After eating one . . . box, we said our goodbyes. Here I am with Nick, Betsy, and their son Luke:

Here's one of Betsy and Keith Sweat:

From Crown Point, we headed north back through Chicago. We stopped in Algonquin, Illinois, to have lunch with my law school friend Mark (groomsman #3) and his wife Diane. Here are Mark and me in what my dad would call a Hollander look-a-like contest:

(I promise there are pictures of Lindsay. I just think I took some lovely pictures during the first day-and-a-half of the trip)

After picking up a couple books for the road, Lindsay and I headed north into Wisconsin (state #3):

We saw these clouds and thought, "What fascinating clouds":

As we continued, we thought, "Boy, those clouds certainly look imposing":

Then, "Golly, those clouds look downright nasty":

Then the storm came over the road, and we thought, "Maybe we should go back to the donuts":
A bit confused after driving through that apocalyptic hellfire, Lindsay started taking pictures of truckstop wall ads. This company's fireworks will add a special touch to any event, including divorces:
At the Wisconsin-Minnesota (state #4) border, we stopped and explored Lock and Dam No. 7 on the Mississippi River:
My beautiful wife on the bank of the Mississippi (I still can't figure out how I got her to marry me):
A pretty Minnesota sunset:
We hoped to get back to South Dakota by 9 or 10 p.m., but after our donut fiesta, a big lunch with a fellow Dutchman, and Hurricane Buck in Wisconsin, we crossed into the Mount Rushmore State at about 1 a.m.:
We spent the night in Sioux Falls with my sister Sarah, after what turned out to be the longest driving day of our trip. If we would have gone with our original plan and brought Molly with us in the car, both we and the car would surely have been covered in cat hair and various other Molly business by the end of Day 2.
Crown Point, IN, to Sioux Falls, SD - 626 miles
