We will use this blog first to recap our trip out here and then to keep all of you up-to-date on our goings on here in Alaska. However, we don't currently have our camera cables (we shipped them instead of bringing them with us in the car), and since our pictures will be infinitely more interesting than our writing, we are going to wait to make any posts about our trip until we can include pictures.
For now, a little background about the terminology used on the blog:
The title: "Why are you moving to Alaska?" We were asked that question dozens of times leading up to our move. It is our hope that the photos and stories we put on this blog will answer that question.
The description: "Dispatches to the Outside." By keeping up with the Anchorage Daily News website and reading "Going to Extremes" by Joe McGinniss (an awesome Alaska book recommended by a good friend), we learned that Alaskans refer to the rest of the world as "the Outside" (capital "O") and to non-Alaskans as "Outsiders" (capital "O"). I guess we're on the Inside now.
The URL: "waiting4molly.blogspot.com." When we left Indiana, we left our mentally ill cat, Molly, behind. We are hoping to get her up here soon. Just look at her:
The title of this post: "We're from Anchorage." During the drive up, people kept asking us where we are from, assuming that we were on vacation. To make things easy, we usually just said, "Indianapolis." Now, though, we're from Anchorage.
That's it for now. More soon.
